Artist
Silvana Kane
Born in Lima, Peru, Silvana has travelled and toured extensively throughout the world with her band Pacifika. Music, art, and cultural explorations have been the foundations of her life and Mother Nature her greatest inspiration. Her paintings are expressions of her love for the natural world and created in celebration of its beauty. Silvana is based out of Port Moody and works in her little 'casita' in the woods.
"I have been creating, drawing, dancing and making music all my life, and think that the way we do one thing is the way we do all things. I like to feel unrestrained so I paint directly on the canvas and often use my fingers, dipping them into bright colours to create layers and texture. I turn the canvas in many different directions to allow the piece to express itself. I use gold and silver and bold fluorescent colours and add textures to allow the painting to change with light and to elicit a feeling of wellbeing. I often work the canvas with cloths and textiles and improvise along the way. I approach painting the way I do movement and music, with fluidity and a great sense of joy."

Carolyn Douglas
A resident of Port Moody, Carolyn began to paint 6 years ago with a beginner set of acrylics and a small notebook full of early creations. She moved to canvases, studying watercolour and acrylic, experimenting with abstract, texture and layering techniques. Over the years she has begun to focus her work on simple landscapes, primarily using soft earthy hues. Carolyn is opening an art studio in the fall called Tuft & Bristle.

Skylar Jade
Born in Ottawa Ontario, Skylar Jade is a Port Moody-based oil painter and artist with a passion for exploring the symbiotic relationships between insects and humanity. Using both three-dimensional texture and vibrant colours to bring bugs to life, she aims to evoke a broader sensory experience and bring awareness to the vital importance of their being. She is currently wrapping up her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Emily Carr University of Art + Design with plans to further pursue her Master of Fine Arts.
"My body of work combines aspects of bold colours and rich textures with a vision of relational interconnectedness between myself and my environment, relying heavily on the natural world around us and particularly those that go unseen. By enlarging insects and having them escape their biological limits I aim to nurture the understanding and acceptance of their ecological impact, as well as the relevance that they are living beings with tangible, sensory filled experiences just as we are."
