Port Moody Rock and Gem Club
Founded in 1978, the Port Moody Rock & Gem Club is a vibrant non-profit community group dedicated to the lapidary arts and earth sciences. Our members explore the fascinating world of rocks, minerals, gemstones, and fossils through hands-on workshops, educational programs, field trips, and more. We operate a fully equipped lapidary workshop at Kyle Centre, where members learn to cut, polish, and craft with stone. New members are always welcome! We also host an annual Rock & Gem Show in October, attracting enthusiasts to experience our passion firsthand. This year's show is on Oct. 25 & 26 - save the date!
Our passion is rooted in the natural beauty of the earth. As members of the Port Moody Rock & Gem Club, we are fascinated by the colours, textures, and stories that rocks, minerals, and gemstones reveal. From the thrill of finding a unique specimen in the wild to the careful artistry of cutting and polishing stones, we embrace every step of the journey. Through lapidary arts, we transform raw materials into cabochons, sculptures, and jewellery, celebrating both creativity and craftsmanship. United by curiosity and community, we explore the earth’s treasures and share our discoveries with others, fostering a love for geology and the art it inspires.

Carolina Licon - PMAA
Art is a refuge for the soul and a transformative therapy. As an artist, I've discovered a deep connection with my being and the world in every creation. Its ability to provide peace and elevate emotions fills me with gratitude. Through art, I learn to appreciate the beauty in the everyday and to enjoy this beautiful world in all its complexity.

Carla Vermaat - PMAA
Born and raised in The Netherlands, Carla started painting in 1995 in a therapeutic response to devastating events in her personal life. She was immediately drawn to the luminosity of light opposed to secretive darks and the vibrancy of bright colours. Experimenting in various mediums, including watercolour, oils, acrylics and inks, her work displays the many different aspects of her personality: strong colourful landscapes opposed to simplified quick sketches in pen and ink.
"The vastness of the British Columbia landscape never ceases to amaze me, humble me, inspire me and my aim is to capture its beauty in the perfect painting – which I haven’t achieved yet and I doubt I ever will -, but I will keep trying."
Carla has exhibited in many galleries and solo exhibitions in the UK and her work has reached many homes all over the globe. Now a member of the Port Moody Art Association, she focuses on the landscapes that are an eye-opener to her since she moved to Canada.

Karen Baynton - PMAA
I am a local artist working out of my home studio. My artwork has been on display in many local events, including, IOCO ghost festival, Port Moody Art Show and the Art Walk in Sun Peaks. Local galleries that have displayed my work include Lotus in Guildford, Tsawwassen Mills and Lone Wolf Gallery in Sun Peaks.
Medium: Painting

Maria Petrucci - PMAA
I am excited to be an emerging artist in Port Moody where I now live. I enjoy drawing and painting in various media, experimenting with realistic and expressionist styles. I'm a Vancouverite who has always sketched and painted, especially people and portraits. I didn't take art seriously until a few years into my bachelor degree and changed my focus to visual arts and art history where I gained more drawing skills. This was about 20 years ago but as I was uncertain about my career direction in visual arts it remained just a hobby until this year. I started teaching art to adults and children in 2025. This year my work is also being exhibited in a few galleries.

Olivera Habibovic - PMAA
Since childhood, Olivera Habibovic has had a profound passion for the arts. For over three decades, she has explored various mediums, including acrylic, watercolours and mixed media. She has created nearly 200 unique paintings that eloquently capture the beauty of nature. Her paintings aim to capture the most beautiful and happy moments in life.
Following an extensive career in interior decorating and painting, Olivera embarked on a new journey: teaching. She led an art and craft program catered to school-aged children for over 20 years. Recently, she founded and started teaching and hosting paint events in her community. Through this she leads engaging painting socials for groups of 10-15 individuals, offering an approachable avenue for creative expression. In addition, Olivera is a member of the Port Moody Arts Association, contributing to the enrichment of the local artistic community.
“My art is a visual representation of my inner passion for nature and my love for the Dalmatian coast and the Mediterranean Sea. They capture a snapshot of nature usually combined with abstract elements bursting with life. I am often inspired by a memory of my past, and daily energies and interactions with my friends, family and garden.”

Naomi Ambrose
Naomi Ambrose is a Vancouver based illustrator and designer whose love of nature themed designs has inspired her love of designing. Alongside her Christmas and Winter themed Snow Women collection that raised her visibility, Naomi envisions having a collection that includes fun and unique butterfly themed daywear and accessories.
Ambrose has also released another adult coloring book called RubiAnn Rabbit’s Butterfly Adventures. Ambrose will also release her new adult coloring book called RebiJann Rabbitt’s Enchanted Adventures which features whimsical and unique hand-drawn illustrations of a curious rabbit and her enchanted adventures. As well, Ambrose also creates unique whimsical and vibrant hand drawn stickers and art prints.
My demo includes young adult females, housewives, professional women and retired females.
Medium: Colouring books and stickers

Rose Kapp
Rose Kapp (Roszay) is a professionally educated visual artist. Originally from Edmonton, residing in Coquitlam and considered an honorary Port Moodite.
Working in hand media as well as digital, she has created work that has included illustrated maps, colouring pages, wonky building paintings and cartoons. She continues to do client-based work but is focusing on self-directed artworks in this phase of her career.
Rose is a local arts advocate, founding Creative People Talking in 2014, an artist’s network/salon, and is in a number of arts groups in the area including the Art Shuffle (Port Moody), and ArtsConnect (Tri-City).
"I hate doing the same thing over and over. I’ve changed. So has my work. Professional artist since the 70s. Yeah, I’m that old. Commercial art, graphic design, punk photography, digital. Matisse, Edward Hopper, Dr. Seuss, Paul Klee, Tim Burton. It’s all mixing in my brain, spewing out in my sketchbooks. Try hard not to over work the images. Keep the original subconscious feeling when transferred to finished form. Ingrained habits die hard. The times are a-changing yet again. I want to express it with all the anxiety, joy, fear, whimsy and crazy dreams I experience."

Kerry Seton-Rogers
I was born in Johannesburg South Africa where I attended School and made many friends who are still close to my heart.
I moved to Cape Town to attend Cape Technikon to study Jewellery Design and manufacturing, Graduating four years later as a Goldsmith. It was a marvelous place to learn and I delved into every facet of Jewelry making, from metal, to enameling, casting, mold making, setting, drawing, stone cutting, wax carving, gemology, drawing, design, 3d design, and a whole lot of other wonderful things.
"To create, use my hands, and be inspired by the world and people that surround me. To add, if I can, a bit of a sparkle to the panoramic view."
Medium: Jewelry

Elise Deglau
I am Canadian born and lived in Australia for part of my life. I’ve been an artist since a very young age. Grew up loving to watch cartoons, performance art and films and drawing whatever came into my head. I enjoy stories whether it’s fiction, science fiction, fantasy, thrillers and suspense. I also enjoy making up stories. I currently work in the film industry as a VFX artist.
I’ll be showing some of my watercolour and ink art. I’ll also be bringing some printed wearable items.

Christy Dunsmore
I come by my creative spirit quite honestly. My mom was an amazing artist and encouraged all of us to draw when we were old enough to hold a crayon (all the while helping us resist that childish urge to stuff those bright waxy bits into our noses). We’d come home from school and pull out a big roll of brown paper and just draw. We’d explore our beautiful Okanagan wilderness and sketch the landscape, the animals and each other, eating our peanut butter sandwiches and Dad’s homemade fudge. Oh yeah. Dad. Well, Dad wasn’t so visually creative. He was an economist, an accountant, a true bean counter who even cleaned our septic tank in his suit. But he encouraged our little band of towheaded artists and, on occasion, blessed us with a little stick man or two.
Over the years, I have tried to honour that left brain / right brain duality gifted to me via the gene pool. I love science and my first studies at university were in microbiology. Then I returned to do a degree in Fine Arts, focusing on drawing and printmaking as well as Asian Art studies. Then I returned again to study all kinds of creative writing. And in between all that going to school, I worked in the worlds of advertising and architecture. My career has included extensive work as an illustrator, copywriter, editor and administrator. But no matter what I’m doing, my goal has always been to encourage others and help them find what’s important to them, to help them find the story within.
I have been a long-time visual arts instructor in the Tri-Cities and Burnaby areas. I learn so much from my students … and hopefully they learn a little bit from me, too. It is truly joyful.

Reese Shen
Howdy! My name is Reese and I’m an emerging artist and illustrator from Vancouver. I graduated from ECUAD last year with a BFA majoring in illustration.
My work is largely focused on using domestic objects and femininity as a lens through which to explore themes of vulnerability and comfort, animals are also often a motif or characters in many of my works.
For the art market I will have small paintings, prints, painted textile art objects and accessories
