Artists

Deanna Fligg

I am strictly a pollinator artist currently focusing on bees. Through my art I am shedding light on the importance of all pollinators to our ecosystem as well as their current peril.

My work sparks environmental conversations and are extremely educational. My paintings use multiple materials which tend to draw in viewers due to the vibrant palettes, attention to details and abstract patterns. My illustrations are joyful, colourful and bring laughter to the world.

Bees and other pollinators are misunderstood; hopefully my work prompts conversations to support this planet’s life for a better future. I wish to inspire change because without our pollinators or healthy lands, our lifestyles, if not the environment as a whole, will be significantly impacted.

Valerie Parrish

I have been potting for over 25 years and I enjoy all aspects of it. From starting with a block of clay, to moulding it into a piece and combining many glazes to show movement. My work is artistic, yet functional. I am scuba diver and my work is influenced by what I see when I'm in the ocean, and why my glazes have a waterfall effect.

Medium: Ceramics

Seema Zaidi

I am drawn to the tactile experience of surface designing of exotic fabric such as silk. The manipulation of dyes, fibers on a textile is endless and this gives me a reason to explore and learn new techniques every day. Each of my pieces is an exploration of the medium using pictures from my camera that I collect all along the way.

To me, anything that brings positivity in my life is an inspiration and nature being my biggest inspiration. Physicality of working with textile, dyes and fibers is an essential component in helping me to shape my ideas. I design each piece with great intricacy and detailing which is for the pleasure and satisfaction of the wearer.

Port Moody Men’s Shed

Port Moody Men’s Shed (Old Guys Doing Woodwork)

“The Port Moody Men’s Shed formed during the pandemic as part of an international movement of Men’s Sheds. Sheds provide, generally older men a place to go, something to do and someone to talk to. It’s all about improving men’s health and well-being without actually saying that’s what it’s about. We do talk a lot,  but also make things from fine woodworking to community projects.”
